Ebbw Valley Rail Scheme

The Ebbw Valley Railway Project involved the re-opening of the existing freight railway line to passenger services for the first time since 1962, and represents part of the regeneration plans for Blaenau Gwent CBC following the closure of the Corus works in 2002.

The scheme consisted of the construction of six new stations (Rogerstone, Risca, Pontymister, Crosskeys, Newbridge, Llanilleth and Ebbw Vale Parkway) including new station buildings, platforms, car parks and broadly consisted:-

  • Provision of 350 new parking bays
  • New railway platforms
  • Re-alignment of existing rail track
  • Lighting
  • CCTV and electronic barriers
  • Access roads
  • Drainage
  • Site clearance
